Maria Teresa Martinez Rodriguez

María Teresa “Maritere” Martínez Rodríguez, a consultant and facilitator of dance workshops at SanArte Cultura, has dedicated her life to the preservation of the Puerto Rican Bomba. Her journey began in the group Calabó and since then she has been part of emblematic groups such as Majestad Negra, Hijos de Agüeybaná, Ausuba, Plena Libre, and Ballet Folklórico Hermanos Ayala, standing out as a powerful cuás player and a pioneer in women-led projects. She has taken her art to local and international stages, collaborated with artists such as Tego Calderón, and participated in productions by Banco Popular. She has also promoted community and educational projects such as La Cultura También Cura and Semilla de Cultura , in addition to representing Loíza at Encuentros de Tambores. Her legacy, marked by resilience and passion, consolidates her as the root and living drum of our culture.
